I was out of the WT in 1994. What prediction of the end came then? And in what context?

Did you Hate Being Called Brother ( last name ) Or use People's First Name?
by flipper ina a witness this really bugged me.
i hated being called brother ( last name ) by people i knew for 10, 20, or 30 years !
it was so impersonal i felt.

It didn't bother me when I was being called on to comment at a meeting, because I thought that was a more formal setting. I don't remember anyone calling me that when we were in service or just talking at a meeting though. That would have been weird.

Ladies, please explain your behavior
by Elsewhere ini recently asked a girl out.
she was excited to go so we nailed down some plans and i bought some tickets for a live show at a theater.
the show was for 7:30 pm on friday.

Of course, I don't know her personally, so maybe she had some real good excuse (and it better be real good, too, to justify that behavior). But in my opinion, if someone doesn't treat you well early in a relationship, they are even less likely to treat you well later on. In most cases, early problems should be red flags that the relationship isn't meant to be.

Boys Club
by CaptainSchmideo ini saw this on www.newsfromme.com and thought i would share it:.
let's imagine it's 1938 and if you're a male, let's imagine you're female.
let us imagine you have considerable artistic ability and you think it might be put to good use working for mr. walt disney on his animated features as, say, an animator.

How sad. Of course, at the time most people found this perfectly acceptable. I wonder how many of today's perfectly acceptable viewpoints will be regretted in the future?

Question about how long Jesus 1000 year reign is?
by jwfacts init appears that the watchtower teaches that the 1000 year reign starts after armageddon, which makes sense.
(revelation 20:6) .
.happy and holy is anyone having part in the first resurrection; over these the second death has no authority, but they will be priests of god and of the christ, and will rule as kings with him for the thousand years.

Good question. I've wondered about this myself. I don't have any answers though. It's possible the WT doesn't either. As we have seen throughout the years, not all of their doctrines add up.

Purps,
I really enjoyed your comment. Something that always made me think twice as a JW was when I would meet people "in the world" who were kind, decent, caring people. I knew that many of them would never become JWs and therefore, according to WT doctrine, be executed by Jehovah. I just couldn't see how this was right, or how a loving God would kill good people just because they didn't belong to the right religion.

Are There ANY Advantages To Being A Jehovah's Witness?
by minimus incan you think of anything??
?.

The WT does encourage clean living, with no smoking, drugs, over indulgence in alcohol, risky sexual conduct, etc. It also teaches people to have good values and be honest (unless you're lying for the sake of the kingdom, of course).
None of these things are exclusive to JWs however. Many churches, synagogues, mosques, temples, etc. that do not employ unethical mind control methods encourage these behaviors in their followers as well.
In my opinion, the price you pay for any good that comes from the WT is not even close to worth it.

Local JWs plan on setting up booth at mall and college
by SnakesInTheTower inone of the local elders in my town, a real go-getter when it comes to all things dub, is apparently the new service overseer.
until recently (when i stopped drinking the kool-aid), we were also close friends.
he still calls me a couple of times a month.

It's true, the WT is just one more problem in a world with many. However, we are in a position that many are not. We have had first hand experience in the cult and that is valuable.
I wonder if your college would be as willing to let a group like the Moonies set up a booth there? Can you present information to the school administration about cults and how they operate? Or maybe to someone in the Psychology Dept.?
Steve Hassan, in his book "Releasing the Bonds," says that former members like us are in a position to make a real difference on this issue by speaking out. I don't know if your situation would allow you to do it publicly, but could you submit the information while requesting anonymity? The fact that you have to do that should be a red flag for someone at the college or the mall.

He's just got it all figured out doesn't he? I didn't catch where that scripture about the anti-matter was though. Was it Daniel or Revelation?
